weight loss help nhs
Can I get surgery on the NHS to mend my body after substantial weight loss (10st) ?

I am 29. I am so depressed that I have to really fight to see a future for myself. I lost weight initially through diet and exercise and was very optimistic about the future. However, 3 years ago my son was diagnosed with cancer and is now terminally ill. The stress has caused me to lose a lot of weight, quicker than I would have ever intended. I feel very alone and depressed. I am scared that I will never feel normal. I can’t afford private treatment. I feel like a freak, I can’t look at myself. I think the stress of everything may be killing me but I don’t want to die. I have so many dreams. I pray every day that there is help out there for me. I have absolutely no self-eteem, I don’t even feel like a woman anymore. I need to know if there is hope for me?

Yes, you can but it can be a bit of a long process, you will need to ask for it on psychological grounds, that it’s affecting your mental health and wellbeing and the consultant will have to agree that you have grounds for NHS on the appearance of it.

The doctor would refer you to a psychologist to be assessed and to ensure you are mentally stable for the operation and to ensure that you have no condition such as body dysmorphia (standard practice).

I think you have a pretty good chance seeing you have already lost weight and that it is getting you down so much, but only the NHS can decide this.

You need to be very careful in what you say to the GP/psychologist/consultant, you need to state that you feel there could be a significant improvement (They don’t like it when you say things like ‘I just want to get rid of it).

Good Luck, i think you will be successful but patience is the key.

You deserve all the happiness you get :-) :-) :-)
