Weight loss with under active thyroid and high prolactin levels?

Hi

I have an under active thyroid, high prolactin levels and possible PCOS, I would like to lose approx. 6 pounds a month as I am over weight but I’m finding it quite hard. I am doing weight watchers and exercising nearly everyday. If anyone has experience of dieting while having hormone related problems I would be grateful of some advice as my GP is useless!

Hey :)

I don’t really have a an answer for you but I’d recommend you check out a healthforum for each of those conditions. I was diagnosed hypothyroid in the summer and I’ve found a couple of the forums very helpful. To learn more about the thyroid side of things/ask questions to those with experience I recommend: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=122

You should find a similar board for PCOS on the website if you want to look.

I will just mention that you wont lose weight with hypothyroidism unless you’re on the right dosage for you. Normals TSH levels are .5 – 5.0 but a lot of people complain of symptoms when at the higher end of that range. Most people feel best between 1-2. I guess that PCOS makes it harder for you aswell :( Sucks when you feel like you’re doing everything right, I’m in the same boat. Hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel though… Good luck :)
